Draft study says thousands of adverse events are linked to Avandia

An unpublished study conducted by an FDA scientist linked GlaxoSmithKline's diabetes drug Avandia to up to 48,000 heart attacks, strokes and other problems in Medicare patients between 1999 and 2009. The research will be included in the FDA's safety review of Avandia in mid-July, an agency official said.
