F.M. Pile Hardware in Charleston, W.Va., has managed to thrive as a family business in a time when national retail chains generally dominate most markets, writes Tom Bragg. The store repairs almost any kind of power lawn equipment and says it provides friendly, personal customer service. "We do upward of 8,000 repairs every summer," shop manager Ted Pile says.
