New York Senate advances autism-insurance mandate

The New York Senate approved a measure to require health-insurance companies to cover treatments and therapies associated with autism spectrum disorders. An earlier version of the bill had specified which treatments should be covered, while the Senate-approved bill mandated that approved services be evidence-based and proven clinically. Similar laws are already in place in 20 other states; the New York bill heads to the state Assembly.
