Number of foreclosures remains high, but crisis appears to ease

RealtyTrac, a foreclosure listing service, has reported that almost 323,000 households received notices related to foreclosure last month. The number of households facing foreclosure is comparable to that of last year, and foreclosures are easing in some cities that were hardest hit by the housing meltdown. However, a new foreclosure wave could be in the works later this year, depending on the economy, unemployment rate and effectiveness of mortgage-assistance programs.
