SEC could tighten disclosure rules on target-date funds

Target-date funds could have to disclose more information to investors under a decision expected Wednesday by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Officials say they're worried that the funds promote investor complacency, so they're considering tightening regulations on how the funds are advertised and explained to consumers. "We are going to confront the issue of the potential for target-date fund names to confuse investors, or lull them into a false sense of security," SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro said.
