Watchdog panel scrutinizes government rescue of AIG

The Congressional Oversight Panel said in a report that the government likely will "remain a significant shareholder" in American International Group for the next few years. Whether taxpayers "will ever be repaid in full" remains unclear, according to the report. The watchdog's report is in contrast to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's more optimistic comments. Bernanke told a House panel that he expects AIG to repay the government for the assistance it received at the height of the global financial crisis.
