Accounting groups want rules simplified for small firms

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Financial Accounting Standards Board are backing separate proposals to simplify accounting for small companies that aren't publicly traded. Both approaches depart from elaborate requirements in generally accepted accounting principles, which are followed by public companies in the U.S.
