Artificial pancreas may revolutionize type 1 diabetes treatment

An artificial pancreas that could offer a revolutionary way to treat type 1 diabetes is now undergoing home trials, with 24 patients expected to have tested the device by the end of the year. The device monitors blood-glucose levels using an infrared data link that can activate an insulin pump attached to the patient.
