Chemical firms expand water-efficiency goals

Chemical firms such as Dow Chemical, BASF, SABIC and Air Products & Chemicals are implementing water-efficiency technologies as part of sustainability goals. Dow Chemical has been using new cooling techniques to reduce water use, and BASF, recipient of the European Water Stewardship gold certification, is looking to expand water conservation. "By the year 2020, we want to introduce water management to the EWS standard at all sites where water is scarce," said Ulrich von Deessen, who heads BASF's environment, health and safety center in Germany.
