Chevrolet uses virtual modeling to maximize passenger space

Chevrolet tapped a high-tech toolbox to create more passenger space in the latest iteration of its full-sized Impala model. Digital models of human ergonomics and a 3D Cave Automated Virtual Environment took into account not just physical room but also how it is perceived by human occupants of different sizes and types. "Using various advanced technologies, we were able to make dimensional and design modifications in a virtual environment before locking down on a final architecture," said Crystal Windham, director of Chevrolet passenger car interior design.
