Roof repair to close Rio de Janeiro stadium for 18 months

Repairs to the damaged roof of the Joao Havelange stadium in Rio de Janeiro will close the arena for 18 months, according to a committee of engineers formed by the city. The roof has several problems, including broken and twisted supports, which are "related to the way the project was conceived," according to Sebastiao Andrade, an engineering professor. The stadium is expected to reopen its doors at the end of next year.
