Third-graders at Ames Elementary School in Searsmont, Maine, brought illustrations to the life events chronicled in the diary that teenage schoolteacher Josephine Knight wrote from 1885 to 1888. The students learned about local history from the diary, self-published as a book by Amy Robbins-Wilson, a distant cousin of Knight's. The students' illustrations were combined in a hardcover book. "She'd be thrilled to know her words are still teaching, years and years after she passed away," Robbins-Wilson said.
