Researchers find potential pain receptor target for IBS drugs

British researchers learned that levels of TRPV1 -- a pain receptor that triggers the burning sensation caused by chili peppers -- are higher in people with irritable bowel syndrome. The findings suggest it may be possible to treat IBS by blocking this molecular switch.
