Georgia hopes to receive stimulus funds for high-speed rail

Georgia hopes to receive a slice of the $8 billion in stimulus funds earmarked for high-speed rail. A proposed route would connect Charlotte, N.C., to Jacksonville, Fla., with a stop at the Gainesville, Ga., Amtrak station. "The station is near the central business district and could become a focal point for rehabilitation for the area, which is slightly degraded," said a report commissioned by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
