Germany's Metro plans to acquire Karstadt from Arcandor

Eckhard Cordes, CEO of German retail giant Metro, is planning to merge its Kaufhof department store chain with Arcandor's Karstadt chain and then sell the resulting company, according to business daily Handelsblatt. Metro's plan comes a day after Arcandor filed for insolvency.
