Los Angeles, New York forgo crumb rubber in synthetic turf

Officials in the New York City parks department and the Los Angeles schools have decided to forgo crumb rubber in artificial turf. The two cities will use alternative materials, such as coated grains of sand, as the cushion layer beneath the synthetic grass. According to Synthetic Turf Council President Rick Doyle, concern over crumb rubber "isn't founded on science."
