New Florida law changes out-of-network provider payment

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has signed into law a bill to require health insurers to pay out-of-network physicians directly, instead of sending checks to patients. Crist says some patients pocket the money and don't pay the medical bill, which makes providers reluctant to provide out-of-network care. Opponents claim it will increase out-of-pocket costs for patients and make it less likely that physicians will offer discounts for in-network services.
