WHO meets with leaders on possible pandemic declaration

The World Health Organization has met with officials from Australia, Chile, Japan, Mexico, the U.K. and the U.S. to discuss preparatory measures for the "probable change" in the agency's pandemic alert level for the H1N1 virus, Chile's health ministry confirmed. A WHO advisory panel is scheduled to meet today to discuss the agency's alert level. The virus now has caused about 28,000 cases worldwide, including 141 deaths.
