Auckland airport launches face-recognition system

Auckland International Airport is experimenting with a new technology that snaps photos of passengers' faces as they walk toward a customs gate. The pictures are matched to the passengers' electronic passports. The system is "the first single-step prototype using 3D for face recognition to be used in a live operational environment," said Customs Minister Maurice Williamson.
