Certified organic and the issue of food safety

Picking organic options over conventional produce benefits the planet and likely leads to less pesticide exposure, but while the "organic" label means additional eyes have inspected the facility, it doesn't always guarantee the food inside is perfectly safe. Recently, certified organic pomegranate seeds from Turkey in a frozen berry mixture from an Oregon company were linked to an eight-state hepatitis A outbreak, sparking renewed debate on the benefits of organic.
