DamWatch, a dam monitoring and warning system from Connecticut-based USEngineering Solutions, "aggregates real-time data from weather and hydrologic sources, meters, gauges and other sensing devices." It performed well in recent pilot tests and will be deployed across the country this fall. "It will allow us to monitor all 11,800 [watershed] dams from one location in real time," said Noller Herbert, the Natural Resources Conservation Service director of engineering. The system will alert engineers and interested parties through text and e-mail whenever "waters are approaching dangerous levels for any particular facility."
