Memory chip for brains among promising technologies

A silicon chip that holds the potential to improve the long-term memory of Alzheimer's patients is one of 10 breakthrough technologies cited by MIT Technology Review. The chip, developed by biomedical engineer Theodore Berger of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, signals neurons in the hippocampus and has already been shown to work in rats and primates.
