Mobile apps gaining "social" element to aid drivers

Google's reported offer for social mobile map maker Waze is a sign that maps are moving beyond just telling drivers how to get somewhere and more toward providing them with the best and fastest way -- largely by delivering data via social networks -- to reach their destinations, industry analysts note. "We’re seeing maps become the canvas to everyone’s app. The map is alive; the map is responsive," said Eric Gundersen, the head of mapping-tools maker Mapbox.
