Obama nominates gay official for ambassador post

Daniel Baer, an openly gay State Department official, has been nominated by President Barack Obama to become the next U.S. ambassador of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, a 57-nation group that cooperates on security, economic and human-rights issues, and terrorism. Baer would become the fourth openly gay ambassador in U.S. history.
