Study: Diabetes can reduce average life span by eight years

Diabetics' expected life spans are an average of eight years shorter than those of nondiabetics, and the disease makes sufferers more likely to develop heart disease sooner than nondiabetics, according to a new study. The findings come from a review of more than 5,200 U.S. men and women who participated in the ongoing Framingham Heart Study, and researchers found that diabetic women had more than twice the risk of developing heart disease than nondiabetic women.
