A little Twitter might go a long way with patients

There is little in scientific literature to guide physicians on the use and effectiveness of social networking media, such as Facebook and Twitter, writes Dr. Pauline Chen in her New York Times blog. She says it may be possible that some patients would be more motivated to comply with treatments or recommendations if they got a bit of encouragement from their physician in an e-mail, text or tweet. Still, many physicians have concerns about using the Internet and other media to communicate with patients.
