New battery technology could lower electric vehicles' cost, A123 says

A123 Systems says its new Nanophosphate EXT technology for lithium-ion batteries has the potential to reduce the prices of electric vehicles. The batteries, scheduled to enter production in the first half of next year, work better than current lithium-ion batteries in extreme temperatures, providing up to 20% more power, according to the company.
