Calif. Wal-Mart requests approval to sell alcohol

A Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in Elk Grove, Calif., is seeking permission to sell alcohol, but it must first get a "determination of public convenience or necessity," per the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. A city report says permission should be granted because customer convenience would increase, plus letting the store sell alcohol would simply redistribute sales.
