Car takes fuel-economy checkered flag with 1,300 miles per gallon

A team from Brigham Young University won the annual SAE Supermileage Competition in Michigan with a car that got approximately 1,300 miles per gallon. The overall key to the win was precision in everything from shaving vehicle weight to improving the wheels and aerodynamics to cut road and wind friction. The drawback? It accommodates only a single driver and its top speed is 25 mph.
