Debate about algebra II for all continues

While some states, such as Texas and Florida, are removing algebra II as a graduation requirement, others, including Arizona, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio and Tennessee, are making the class part of their required math sequence. Some say the course is key to college and career readiness, but others contend that requiring students who are not college bound to take algebra II may be an unnecessary hurdle.
