Long commute does not equal travel away from home, dentist discovers

A dentist who traveled 130 miles each way to his office and sometimes slept in hotels to avoid the long drive home, and who relied on his daughter and her personal tax software to prepare his returns, could not deduct his travel expenses, the Tax Court held. The court also upheld the imposition of a negligence penalty.
