Trial to use stem cells to treat infant heart defects

The Mayo Clinic has received federal approval for a trial that will use stem cells from babies' own umbilical cords to treat heart defects such as hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The trial, considered the first of its kind, will commence upon enrollment of 10 eligible patients.
