Monsanto may move biotech corn production from Thailand

The firm may shift production investment to India and the Philippines unless Thailand drops its ban on open field trials and the commercialization of transgenic crops, according to a Monsanto official. Monsanto had planned to make the country a regional base for its biotech seed production, starting with Roundup Ready and Bt corn seeds, but the government imposed a ban on open field trials after finding the cotton crops had spread to nearby farms.
