Federal highway grants to fall by one-third, FHA warns

The Federal Highway Administration says states will see a one-third reduction in road construction funds next year due to a projected $3.7 billion shortfall in the federal Highway Trust Fund. FHA blames the shortfall on emergency spending and sharp cutbacks by drivers in the face of soaring gas prices. The Transportation Construction Coalition says the decreased funding could mean a loss of nearly 380,000 jobs.
