Assisted reproduction is linked to higher risk of birth defects

Scientists surveyed 33 fertility clinics in France and found that 4.24% of the 15,162 children born to couples who underwent assisted reproductive technology treatment had a major birth abnormality. One of the researchers said parents considering ART therapy should be warned that babies conceived through such treatment face about twice the risk of having birth defects compared with those conceived naturally.
