Salmon advocates fight tree removal near Washington state levees

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is pushing for plans to remove trees and thick brush from levees along the Green River in Washington state, in an effort to stabilize the levees and improve flood protection. But local and federal fisheries officials voiced opposition to the proposal, saying the vegetation is needed to provide a sanctuary for threatened salmon.
