Wis. encourages growth through National Board Certification

An overhaul of teacher licensing in Wisconsin in 2000 is playing out in the classroom, where it is drawing mixed reactions. The rules to acquire or renew a teaching license require more oversight and a focus on individual teachers. Teachers can renew their license by showing "continued professional competence" or advance to a "master educator" license -- primarily by earning National Board Certification.
