Jeff Immelt, the chairman and CEO of GE, and Ken Chenault, the chairman and CEO of American Express, say job creation needs a "strategic view" to succeed. Both executives serve on the President's Jobs and Competitiveness Council, and include boosting travel and tourism as a key strategy for spurring job creation. "By making it easier to visit the U.S. through improved visa processes, we can win back market share in travel and tourism and create hundreds of thousands of jobs," Immelt and Chenault write. In a separate editorial, former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers also agrees that "much more could be done through changes in visa policy ... to promote tourism."
