Study links high secondary stroke risk, type 2 diabetes

A study in the Archives of Neurology found that patients with type 2 diabetes were more likely to suffer a heart attack or secondary stroke following a first stroke or transient ischemic attack compared with those who don't have the disease. However, aggressive treatment with statins to lower cholesterol can reduce the risk, researchers said.
