Autoimmune disease, infection linked to mood disorder risk

Patients who have autoimmune disease or were hospitalized for severe infection were 45% and 62% more likely to develop a mood disorder, respectively, a Danish study found. The risk for a subsequent mood disorder was more than double in patients who hospitalized for both conditions. The findings appear online in JAMA Psychiatry.
