JCP opens design center to develop private-label lines

J.C. Penney quietly opened a design center in New York City last week, headed by former product development VP Ken Mangone, who left the company in December and returned along with CEO Myron Ullman four months later. The center will focus on developing private-label brands and new lines for signature brands including St. John's Bay, Worthington and Liz Claiborne.
