Plastic thatched roof could be new use for discarded soda bottles

A plastic, thatched roof made from discarded soda bottles has been developed by David Saiia, a professor of strategic management and his students. The top and bottom of the bottles are removed, and they are flattened and cut into strips to build a thatched roof through ultrasonic sealing. A pilot roof in the Maqui Pacuna nature preserve in Ecuador collected dirt and debris, allowing plant growth, and became a "Naturally Occurring Green Roof."
