Report IDs hospital complications not on government radar

Data from 5.5 million patient records found dozens of common hospital complications that affect quality, cost and outcomes but are not tracked by the government or used to determine Medicare payments. The report from Premier said the overall treatment costs for 86 common complications was $4 billion, but of that, only $558 million can be linked to conditions tied to Medicare penalties.
