Edwards: Cash, no long-term patents on breakthrough drugs

John Edwards, one of the leading candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination, proposes changing the patent process for drugs considered breakthroughs. Edwards outlined the proposal in a health care plan he said he would push as president, which would offer cash incentives to drug companies producing breakthrough drugs instead of long-term patents on the products.
