Big Dig dispute costs taxpayers $8.3M

A refusal by the Massachusetts Port Authority to pay for a 3/4-mile section of a Big Dig tunnel near Logan International Airport has cost taxpayers $8.3 million, according to a state auditor. The authority, called Massport, says the work is not up to standards and has cracks and leaks, and the state treasurer made the payments to the Turnpike Authority, causing the extra borrowing costs.
