Experts say Gulf spill may accelerate development of onshore resources

The Gulf of Mexico oil spill may speed up the development of North America's resources in shale gas and oil sands, analysts said. Despite environmental concerns, these resources are considered less risky when compared with the Gulf incident. "Both shale gas and oil sands have their own challenges, but the problems we have seen in the Gulf could lead to a capital shift away from deepwater drilling and toward other sources," said Robert Johnston of the Eurasia Group.
