Massachusetts leads nation in retail revival

Massachusetts is leading the nation in filling retail space, according to Reis. Retailers have inked leases to fill more than half of the roughly 2 million square feet vacated by big-box retailers and other stores in the state. Vacancy rates at Boston-area retail centers have dropped from 6.6% to 5.8% over the course of the first quarter -- the first sign of improvement in eight quarters.
