Discovery of new planet challenges theories of planet formation

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has found evidence of a new planet forming some 7.5 billion miles from its host star. The exoplanet, which is six to 28 times as massive as Earth, throws into question traditional models of how planets form. "If the mass of this suspected planet is as low as it seems to be, this presents a real puzzle. Theory would say that it cannot exist," said Carnegie Institution for Science astrophysicist Alan Boss.
