Funding bill to boost food safety, ban horse slaughter OK'd by House panel

A $19.45 billion funding bill approved by the House Appropriations Committee on Thursday includes a $27 million boost to the FDA budget for food safety. The bill also prohibits funding for horse-slaughter inspection by the USDA and increases funding for drug-safety activities by $2.5 million.
