Green roof to promote sustainability in N.Y. neighborhood

A green roof atop a three-story building in Manhattan's Upper East side is expected to save on heating and cooling costs and control stormwater runoff, according to this article. "This little roof, 2,400-square-feet, is going to absorb 4,500 gallons of rain every time it rains," said Carter Strickland, commissioner of the city's Department of Environmental Protection. The roof is also expected to help reduce air pollution and serve as an events venue.
